Our first trip

Our first trip

For better or worse, Labor Day weekend 2017 marked the official debut of Mary D the RV! She’s had a full summer of interior renovations and now it’s time to take her out and flush the toilet (among other things)! For this momentous occasion, we choose to keep close to home and visit Minneopa State Park near Mankato, MN. Reservations were made, the pantry was stocked, and the anticipation was killing us!

We drove over on Friday afternoon after work – Dad in Mary D and Mom following in the future toad. After missing the turn into the park entrance, we back tracked just a half-mile or so and bought out park passes – one for each vehicle, good till the end of September 2018. We found our site and did our best to get her level. Then we jumped into our car to do some shopping and grab dinner. I mention this primarily because of what we bought at Lowes .. stick on faux ceramic tile back splash for the kitchen. This was a Mom project, and I’m super happy with the results!!

Some projects and efforts didn’t go so smoothly. Most disappointing is we seem to have a leak in the water system which causes the pump to switch on regularly, even if the water isn’t running. We decided to tackle that issues on another day. But we did successfully flush the toilet before cutting off the pump. Yeah for small victories!! BTW, we kept flushing and washing dishes and hands, using our gallon water jug, so everything else we tested worked well. We didn’t get to try the shower yet. Something to look forward to in the future!!

We were happy to entertain guests – our children in the area – and take in the sites at the park including a beautiful double waterfall, a drive through buffalo range (no sightings, though), and an old German-style windmill. The evening ended with s’mores by the campfire and a fun new game – Bring Your Own Book!

Church on Sunday was at St. Mark in Mankato. The congregation was warm and friendly Рgreeters, welcome time at the start of service and kind people sitting near us. The sanctuary was bright and welcoming  as well! Guest Pastor Westendorf preached on 1 Kings 19:11-13.

One more new game we tried out was Tic. It took us a little less than an hour to play through all 11 rounds with two people, and it was fun! Thanks, Pinterest, for the suggestion!!

That’s it for our first official RV experience! We look forward to much more fun in Mary D in the future. Stay tuned!
